Kate Middleton, wife of Prince William, second in line to the British throne, must self-isolate for ten days after coming into contact with someone who subsequently tested positive for coronavirus last week, Kensington Palace announced on Monday .

"Her Royal Highness has no symptoms, but follows all government guidelines in the matter and isolates herself at home," the palace said in a statement.

Kate Middleton misses two events

She began to isolate herself on Friday, after being warned to be in contact with a person who in the meantime tested positive for Covid-19.

The Duchess of Cambridge was to spend Monday with her husband Prince William to celebrate 73 years of the British public health service, the NHS, at two events.

She will therefore not attend the planned mass at Saint Paul's Cathedral, London, in honor of the NHS, nor the afternoon tea at Buckingham Palace for nursing staff.

Second period of isolation for the Duchess since 2020

Kate Middleton's last public appearance was on Friday at the Wimbledon tennis tournament. A big fan of the sport, she should therefore miss the men's and women's finals of this competition on grass, which will take place this weekend. The Duchess, who has received her two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine, performs antigen tests twice a week, like the entire royal family. She had already had to isolate herself in the spring of 2020, when her husband had been struck by the coronavirus, "quite hard" according to the British press.
