The coach of the French women's rugby sevens team has selected an unsurprising group for the Tokyo Olympics, according to the list released Monday by the French Rugby Federation (FFR).

The 12 players selected for the Olympic tournament, which will take place from July 29 to 31 in the Japanese capital, are the same ones who successfully competed in the qualifying tournament in Monaco last month.

"The selection was obvious from a balance point of view, from the feeling that certain associations are working well," commented coach David Courteix in a press release from the FFR.

"We have the feeling that this selection has emerged little by little with a certain form of obviousness".

A substitute (Joanna Griza) and two reservists (Nassira Kondé and Yolane Yengo) will fly to Japan on Saturday with the rest of the group, which should lead the usual captain Fanny Horta.

The Blue will face in Pool B of the Olympic tournament Fiji, Brazil and Canada, bronze medalist in 2016.

The French men's rugby sevens team, the format represented at the Olympics, has failed to qualify for the competition.

The group: Coralie Bertrand (Chilly-Mazarin), Anne-Cécile Ciofani (Bobigny), Caroline Drouin (Rennes), Camille Grassineau (FFR contract), Lina Guérin (Chilly-Mazarin), Fanny Horta (FFR), Shannon Izar (Chilly) -Mazarin), Chloé Jacquet (Lyon), Carla Neisen (Blagnac), Séraphine Okemba (Stade français), Chloé Pelle (Chilly-Mazarin) Jade Ulutule (Rennes)
