Portuguese director Tiago Rodrigues was appointed on Monday as the future director of the Festival d'Avignon, becoming the first foreigner to lead the prestigious theatrical event.

as director of the Festival d'Avignon. Internationally known as a director, he will take office in September 2022 and his first edition of the legendary festival will be presented in July 2023, announced in Avignon the French Minister of Culture, Roselyne Bachelot.

Son of a communist journalist and a socialist doctor mother, he was born on February 16, 1977. The first foreigner to run the festival, he nevertheless speaks very good French and is familiar with the festival, of which he will take the reins.
