After humans, animals.
A vaccination campaign against Covid-19 started this Friday ... at the Oakland Zoo, in California.
About 100 animals are affected, including tigers, pumas, black bears, grizzly bears, ferrets and pigs.
The animals will receive an experimental vaccine developed by Zoetis.
The company donated 11,000 doses to 70 zoos and wildlife sanctuaries in 27 different US states.
The Oakland Zoo is one of the first to receive its doses.
"It has been determined that the vaccine is safe and effective for all these different species," says Dr. Herman to the

As part of @Zoetis ongoing commitment to help those who care for animals in our communities, they are donating more than 11,000 doses of our COVID-19 vaccine to nearly 70 zoos in 27 states.

110 species will be protected
Until now, to prevent the spread of the coronavirus between zoo staff and residents, employees kept their distance from animals and wore protective clothing.
From now on, 110 species will be protected thanks to this vaccine.
A relief for zoo officials, aware of the danger the virus represents for their animals but also of the cumbersome health measures for their employees.
Vaccination began last February in some zoos, such as San Diego, where four orangutans and five bonobos received two doses.
For its part, Russia has developed another serum intended for carnivorous animals.
The latter, called Carnivac-Cov, would be 100% effective after tests on cats, dogs, red foxes and polar foxes.
