The Minister of the Interior

Fernando Grande Marlaska

has avoided

clarifying in what terms the meetings of representatives of EH Bildu with the directors of the prisons of the Basque Country are taking place

in which

fifty ETA prisoners

are already serving their sentences

.

Marlaska has confirmed appointments such as the one held by parliamentarian Julen Arzuaga and deputy Jon Iñarritu with the director of the Basauri prison last June, but

without specifying what is negotiated in those discreet meetings

.

The minister has adhered to the fact that his

Ministry complies in "all its integrity and scope"

the General Penitentiary Law without ruling out new transfers of prisoners who are already in prisons near the Basque Country.

Marlaska has adhered to the application of the General Penitentiary Law "ten years after the defeat of ETA" to leave in the air what is happening with a process organized by his Ministry that has already been positively valued by

groups of support to the prisoners like Sare or Etxerat

. "We only do a pure application of the law", he has responded every time he has been questioned about these transfers after last Friday it was announced that another seven prisoners will be brought to Basque prisons or their surroundings, among them

Iñaki Bilbao

, author of the murder of the socialist councilor

Juan Priede

.

The minister has also not wanted to explain whether, as parties and associations such as EH Bildu demand,

a review of the prison degrees applied to ETA members will be activated

in the coming weeks

.

Once again, the minister's response has been to transfer this decision to the prison treatment boards and to the judges and prosecutors in charge of ensuring compliance with the sentences.

The minister has also avoided responding to the accusations made by the Association of Victims of Terrorism and then

denounces the "right" because, in his opinion, "it uses terrorism in an inappropriate and impertinent way."

The Minister of the Interior has traveled to the Basque Country to participate in the presentation of the first volume of a historiographical work on terrorism entitled

'History and Memory of Terrorism in the Basque Country'

.

The publication is the result of four years of work that began in 2015, with the approval by the Board of Trustees of the Memorial Center of the first project promoted by it to carry out a rigorous study and from the historical methodology on terrorism in the Country Basque.

The Foronda Institute has carried out this research with

26,000 documents

In pdf files, more than 2,000 minutes of town councils related to attacks or terrorist acts in different Basque towns, and 40 interviews in audiovisual support with victims, witnesses and protagonists.
