The president of the UDI Jean-Christophe Lagarde said he was in favor of the compulsory vaccination of nursing and educational staff and recommended that an employer could require the vaccination of his employee, in a letter to the Prime Minister that AFP was able to consult Monday.

"Our country is probably at a time of change in terms of resurgence of the epidemic and the acceptability of possible braking measures", affirms Mr. Lagarde, stressing that "the cleavage" between vaccinated and reluctant people can "generate undesirable tensions ".

Mr. Lagarde speaks as the boss of the UDI group in the Assembly, while Prime Minister Jean Castex is due to consult this week the leaders of Parliament and local elected officials to address, among other things, the issue of vaccination obligation of caregivers.

On this point "we have no objection to it being made compulsory" and "we are ready for the adoption of a very short and rapid law text", affirms Mr. Lagarde.

Proposing to "make vaccination compulsory for all staff working in schools, colleges and high schools", he also recommends "massively vaccinating young people at the start of the school year, on teaching sites".

Mr. Lagarde also says he is "in favor" of "many activities being reserved for people with a complete vaccination course" and recommends "that in the event of a new wave, vaccinated people (be) exempt from certain health measures such as curfew".

Similarly, vaccinated traders would not be subject to administrative closures "if they and their employees were vaccinated".

"The law should also allow an employer to require the vaccination of his employee", who "could of course refuse it" but would not be entitled in this case "to the partial unemployment measures of the government in the event of administrative closure" .

Finally "we should absolutely take advantage of the next few weeks to impose a forced and controlled isolation of people affected" by the Covid, adds Mr. Lagarde.
