Can I go on vacation in Europe during the summer holidays safely and with some peace of mind despite the delta variant of the coronavirus?

And if so, where?

So some and many people ask themselves this in these weeks.

These questions also come to the regional council of Giessen.

Because the authority maintains an EU information center and provides information.

"European consumer protection is reliable and cross-border travel is possible without hesitation with caution and distance," says District President Christoph Ullrich.

The information center is part of a network that also includes the European Consumer Center Germany.

Meanwhile, there is largely positive news about the corona infection in Hesse.

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reports fewer new cases than a week ago and no new death related to Covid-19.

The key indicator, incidence, has fallen slightly, although measured against the data for the past few days it has stagnated between seven and eight.

According to the RKI, only Hamburg has more new infections among 100,000 inhabitants reported within a week.

As can be read on the RKI website, Offenbach and Frankfurt are among the five regions and cities in Germany with the highest incidences.

"Only a vaccination is really bad"

The number of Covid patients under intensive care is falling slightly. However, the intensive care units do not see any real relief because other patients such as those with heart disease now have to be cared for, for example after their operation has been postponed. Regardless of this, reports are increasing that many vaccinated people do not keep their second vaccination appointment. That is why the Giessen infectiologist Susanne Herold warns: “Getting vaccinated against Corona only once, although a vaccination regime with two injections is planned, is worrying. We know that in such cases the protection against the Delta variant is very low. "

According to the RKI, the Hessian health authorities reported 14 new positive PCR tests overnight after 24 a week ago and 65 a month ago. The strikingly low number is also due to the delay in reporting on the part of test laboratories that do not work on weekends. This phenomenon has been evident for more than a year. Since the beginning of the pandemic in March of last year, 291,195 people in Hesse have officially been infected with a variant of the corona virus, which is a good 4.4 percent of the state's population.

7542 people in the centrally located state have officially died from or with Covid-19. According to data from the Divi Register, 81 people with Covid 19 disease were most recently in the intensive care units in Hesse. Of them, 43 were invasively ventilated, as reported by the dpa. Divi stands for German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine. In addition, there were recently 45 corona patients in normal wards and 81 suspected cases.

A look at the five large cities and 21 districts in Hesse shows a rapeseed yellow Corona map with incidences of less than 35 each. However, the indicator in Frankfurt stagnates around 20 and in Offenbach is above it after another increase.

Two circles rank just above the value ten.

The Werra-Meißner district is doing best, it has not reported a new case for seven days.

    The Vogelsberg is below one.

55.5 percent of the Hessians with the first vaccination

With both vaccination rates, the centrally located federal state is still below the federal average. After an intermediate spurt, Hessen lags a little behind the federal government when it comes to vaccination: According to the latest data, 55.5 percent of people in Hessen have received a first vaccination against the corona virus. Hessen is now one point below the federal average. The front runner is Bremen with 64.8 percent of the first vaccinated - Rhineland-Palatinate comes with 57.5. In the case of the fully vaccinated, Hesse lags more clearly behind the federal mean. Hessen comes in at 37.5 percent, which is 1.4 percentage points below the average, but the gap is closing somewhat. 3.49 million people in Hesse have been vaccinated at least once, and 2.358 million are already fully vaccinated.

Resident doctors and staff have so far administered more than 1.83 million vaccinations, as the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians announced.

Since the beginning of April, the general practitioners' practices in Hesse have also been vaccinated against Covid-19, a little later the specialist practices and, since June 7th, the company doctors have been added.

Meanwhile, the state is trying not to let the vaccination fatigue that is spreading in other countries arise in Hesse in the first place.

"Now it is important not to let up: Get vaccinated as soon as you receive a vaccination offer - so that we are also prepared for autumn," is the appeal of the state government.

The German Daycare Association demands further corona protection regulations so that the care of the small children can also take place in the facilities in autumn and winter. The corona pandemic will not go away even with an increase in the vaccination quotas, said chairwoman Waltraud Weegmann of the German Press Agency in Wiesbaden. "Mutations and regional outbreaks will shape everyday life again and again in the future." It is all the more important for daycare centers, day care centers and after-school care centers to develop concepts for a new normal operation now.
