- I was shocked when I entered Älghult, says the municipality's emergency coordinator Charlotte Åberg about what met her during Saturday's downpour.

In a short time, almost 165 millimeters of rain fell over Älghult.

The information comes from the municipality's own measuring station, which is located at a waterworks.

One meter water level

Inside the library, which is a suture mansion, the water level measured just over 50 centimeters indoors when it was at its worst.

- It's very bad.

There is flooding everywhere, says Patrik Ivarsson, the municipality's head of administration, who is on site at Älghult's library.

Outside the library door, the water level measured just over a meter.

During the day, the municipality will inspect the damage.

- The water pipes are not dimensioned for so much water to come at once, says Charlotte Åberg.

The rescue work completed

During the weekend, Uppvidinge municipality called for a crisis meeting where many Älghult residents joined.

- Everyone wanted to help.

This was a unique situation that was difficult to prepare for, says emergency coordinator Charlotte Åberg.

After hours of water pumping, the rescue service finished its work on Sunday.

Now insurance companies and remediation companies have taken over.

- We helped with a pump that on Monday morning finished its work, otherwise it is calm on the spot, says Tony Klemets from the rescue service Östra Kronoberg to SVT.
