Philippine military transport plane carrying 96 people crashed in southern Philippines, killing at least 42 people so far.

A search for the missing persons is currently underway.

Rescue crews are fighting the flames and smoke from the wreckage of the plane and are in the middle of searching for survivors.



The military transport plane crashed on Holo Island in the southern part of the Philippines yesterday (4th) around 11:30 am.



It is said that 96 people were on board, including three pilots and five crew members.



Reuters reported that at least 42 people on board were killed in the crash, and three civilians at the crash site also lost their lives.



The survivors were believed to have escaped the explosion by jumping from the plane before the plane crashed into the ground.



Philippine military authorities are currently focusing on the search for the missing person.



"The pilot failed to find the runway and failed to control the transport," said Sirilito Sovejana, chief of the Philippine military's Joint Chiefs of Staff



While the exact cause of the crash is still unknown, military officials said there were no signs of an attack on the transport plane.
