According to Erika Häggblad, it was not even close to putting together the staffing puzzle for the birth in Lycksele.

It is difficult to recruit midwives in general in Sweden, and almost impossible at short notice in summer.

- We have a hope of being able to have Lycksele open all year round, but then there must be midwives.

And it's thin all over the country.

In order to cope with the personnel situation in the future, Erika Häggblad believes that it is necessary to think in new directions.

- It is, among other things, about the work environment, looking at how others have worked and perhaps thinking new things about working time solutions.

But there is no easy equation to solve.

Long-term work

Working with improvements around the professional role of midwife is a long-term job, the Midwives' Association does not see any rapid changes.

- No, we have reached the end of the road, I think we have the same situation next summer.

But we will take care of the inland women who will give birth in a good way at the other hospitals during the summer, says Erika Häggblad.
