The temperature in Kuwait reaches 70 under the sun

The temperature in the State of Kuwait reached 53.5 degrees Celsius in the shade and 70 degrees under the sun, recording the highest numbers in the world, according to the Kuwaiti newspaper, Al-Rai.

The astronomer and historian Adel Al-Saadoun predicted that the highest temperatures would be recorded at the end of July.

Al-Rai quoted Al-Saadoun in a report published on Saturday evening, saying: “On June 21 of every year, and sometimes June 22, the sun perpendicular to the Tropic of Cancer, and as a result of this perpendicularity the summer begins astronomically in the northern hemisphere.”

He explained that "winter begins in the southern hemisphere, which is called the summer solstice, as the longest day reached about 14 hours, and then the day begins to decrease gradually."

In turn, a member of the Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences, Bader Al-Amira, said: "Kuwait's recording of the highest temperatures in the world is due to several reasons, including the fact that Kuwait is near the Tropic of Cancer, and thus the sun perpendicular to it and the temperature increases."

Al-Amira explained that “the effect of the Indian seasonal depression is one of the reasons for the rise in temperatures, in addition to the counterclockwise rotation of the winds being affected by rising temperatures in Kuwait, southern Iraq and Saudi Arabia.”

And he indicated that "future temperatures depend on readings dependent on global warming, the rise in carbon and the melting of ice in the polar regions."

He pointed out that "the high temperatures at night in Kuwait these days are due to the Al-Bawareh season, which continues until August, when the weather moderates at night before the rise of the Suhail star, and during the day the high temperature continues until the autumnal equinox on September 22."
