Heavy rains flooded the streets in some parts of Hesse on Sunday and filled the cellars.

The fire brigade in Offenbach reported in the evening that it had deployed around 160 times in the afternoon due to heavy rain.

Several cars got stuck in the flooded lane, and some trees fell over.

Basements, apartments and underground garages have been flooded.

Additional fire brigades in the vicinity and the technical relief organization were called in to provide support.

The fire brigade expected the operations to continue into the late evening.

130 missions in the Wetterau district

Numerous flooded cellars were also reported from the Wetterau district.

A thunderstorm front had moved over the Taunus ridge and brought heavy rain and sometimes hail, as the district's press office announced.

The fire brigades would have had to deploy around 130 missions with a focus on Karben and Butzbach.

A thunderstorm with heavy rain also hit Frankfurt in the afternoon.

The German Weather Service (DWD) had warned of severe thunderstorms in parts of Hesse on Sunday, especially in the afternoon.

“There is a mortal danger in the event of lightning!

Among other things, severe damage to buildings is possible.

Trees can be uprooted and roof tiles, branches or objects fall down, ”the DWD said.

Showers and thunderstorms should also be expected on Monday.
