Victims are rising as record heatwaves hit western North America.

About 700 people died suddenly in British Columbia, Canada, due to the scorching heat that started on the 25th of last month.

British Columbia's chief coroner, Lisa Rupoint, said 719 people died suddenly in the week's heatwave, which is three times the number of deaths that would normally occur.

British Columbia has recently suffered from high temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius, and on the 30th of last month, highs in some areas once reached 50 degrees Celsius.

Oregon and Washington state in the northwestern United States, where air conditioning was not required due to the cool weather even in summer, are also seeing deaths.

Oregon has reported 95 deaths during the heat wave, with Multnomah County, which includes Portland, the highest number of deaths.

Washington state also counted more than 30 deaths related to the sweltering heat.
