03 July 2021Edith Bruck with "Il pane perduto" (The ship of Theseus), Gilda Policastro with "La parte di Malvasia" (The ship of Theseus) and Alice Urciuolo with "Adoration" (66thand2nd) are the three finalists of the Narrative section of the Viareggio-Rèpaci 2021 Literary Prize, now in its 92nd edition.



The announcement of the backhoe loader was made today in Viareggio (Lucca) by the new president of the jury Paolo Mieli in the presence of the mayor Giorgio Del Ghingaro.

the three finalists are: Andrea Bajani with "Dimora naturale" (Einaudi), Vittorino Curci with "Poesie 2020-1997" (La Vita Felice and Flavio Santi with "Quanti (truciolature, scie, onda) 1999-2019 "(Industry & Literature Editions).



For the

Nonfiction

section

the finalist triad is composed by Alessandra Necci with "At the heart of the empire. Napoleon and his women between feeling and power" (Marsilio), Walter Siti with "Against commitment. Reflections on good in literature" (Rizzoli) and Gianni Suffer with "The missing year. Arsenio Frugoni in 1944-45" (il Mulino).



The final ceremony will be held on Saturday 28 August in Viareggio, with the announcement of the winners of the three sections of the prize. "It seems that the final evening can be held on the sea, as I dreamed", said Paolo Mieli, judging the level of the finalist books "excellent".



During the ceremony, director, actor and screenwriter Roberto Benigni will receive the City of Viareggio Special Prize. Annalena Benini will be awarded the Journalism Award, Igiaba Scego the International Award. The Opera Prima Award goes to the author Alessandra Carati for the novel "And then we will be safe" (Mondadori). "Without taking anything away from the other competitors, I am happy that Edith Bruck is also surprisingly present in the final, since this already looks a bit like her year", said Mieli, recalling that the writer has already won the Viareggio Prize in 2009 with "How much star is there in the sky" (Garzanti, 2009).



With "Il pane perduto" Bruck is in the five finalists of the Strega Prize (the award ceremony on 8 July) of which he has already won the Strega Giovani Prize. “The boys are my strength, I will go on as long as I have breath,” he said at the award ceremony.



Recently the president Sergio Cavaliere conferred on Bruck the honor of Knight of the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic and for two weeks she was appointed vice president of the Dante Alighieri Society.
