Asked about the place of Amazon in economic activity in France, the Minister in charge of SMEs, Alain Griset, guest of Europe 1 on Saturday, announced that he had proposed to organize the Assises du Commerce to discuss the evolution of e- trade.

"There must be competition," he assures us.

Provided that "a level playing field" is set.

INTERVIEW

"There must be competition, but competition only exists when there are fair rules," says Alain Griset.

Invited from Europe 1, on Saturday, the Minister Delegate in charge of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), announced that he had proposed to the Prime Minister and the President of the Republic to organize Trade Meetings, "so as to put on the table the subject of online commerce ".

A subject which, according to him, does not concern only Amazon.

"Projecting on how e-commerce will evolve"

Is there nothing we can do to limit Amazon's stranglehold on commerce in France?

Yes, answers Alain Griset.

"At the initiative of France, there will be a global tax and Amazon will be concerned," he said, referring to the Gafa tax, "but we must have fair rules in economic activity".

However, this does not exclusively concern Amazon which, he recalls, "represents 19% of economic activity in online sales".

The Assises du commerce will therefore be an opportunity to "plan on how e-commerce will evolve in the coming weeks, months and years".

"There must be competition, but competition only exists when there are fair rules", continues the Minister Delegate in charge of SMEs, who concedes that "the arrival of electronic commerce means that in a certain number of domains, they are not fair ".
