03 July 2021 At least 43 people drowned off the coast of Tunisia, in the sinking of a migrant boat bound for Italy from Libya. Another 84 people were rescued, the Tunisian Red Crescent said according to Reuters online.

The boat left Zuwara, a city in northwestern Libya with migrants from Egypt, Sudan, Eritrea and Bangladesh on board, explains the humanitarian organization.

And, thanks to the good weather and the calm sea, the landings in Lampedusa continue. After the first two arrivals this morning of two small boats with 10 and 15 people on board, another boat with 39 Tunisians has recently docked in port, including 4 women, one of which is pregnant.

It therefore seems to have opened the way for arrivals from Tunisia, after the departures that took place until last week from the west coast of Libya.

In Lampedusa, the Contrada Imbriacola hotspot is freeing itself, even if it remains at its maximum capacity, with about 300 migrants who have been transferred to the quarantine ship off the island.

Stopped in Augusta for the ship Doctors Without Borders

After a 14-hour inspection by the Italian authorities, the Doctors Without Borders ship GeoBarents - which in recent days had rescued 410 migrants off the coast of Libya - was blocked in the port of Augusta "on the basis of deficiencies found". This was announced by the same NGO on Twitter, underlining that it is the thirteenth time in 3 years that Italy has blocked humanitarian ships. In the first six months of the year, MSF recalls, "721 people lost their lives at sea. We will do everything possible to return to the Mediterranean to save lives".
