In the past, the intensive care units have been expanded to accommodate all covid patients who needed care.

Today the pressure is not as high and iva is back to normal levels.

Most have been in the 70s

- During the third wave, the patients have been younger and heavier.

We have had 25- to 30-year-olds and most of them were born in the 70s.

During the second wave, most were born in the 50s and 60s, says Karin Frisell and continues:

- Those who were ill during the second wave have now been vaccinated - but there will always be those who for various reasons have not been vaccinated.

And with the delta variant, it may even turn out that a third dose of vaccine is needed.

Readiness for expansion

Therefore, there is also a contingency and the IVA departments are ready to be expanded again if needed.

- We do not charge anything in advance.

If there's something we've learned, it's it.

We are happy for every day that goes well, says Karin Frisell.

In the video, she tells more about how it is at iva right now and how the workload differs today from what it looked like a few months ago.
