It was not possible to obtain a comment from the authority concerned with managing the central control system for traffic lights in Abu Dhabi, on this proposal, but the Abu Dhabi Police General Command called on visitors and tourists to adhere to the traffic and traffic rules applicable in the emirate, in order to preserve the safety of road users.

Recently, Abu Dhabi Police, in cooperation with the Follow-up and Control Center in Abu Dhabi, and as part of the “Safety Path” campaign and the “You are the Commentary” initiative, published a video clip of an accident due to crossing a red light, as the vehicle driver did not notice that the left turn signal was red, while the traffic signals were Those heading forward were green, which caused a number of vehicles coming from the other direction to hit him.

Commentators on the accident suggested reconsidering the programming of traffic lights, to reduce traffic accidents, especially those accidents that occur due to a lack of attention to the synchronization between the opening of the signal for those heading forward and its closing for those heading to the left.

Abu Ahmed called for opening and closing all signals in the front and left directions together, to prevent drivers from causing confusion, especially visitors and tourists not residing in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

(Dr. Abeer) considered that the traffic lights are very confusing, especially in such cases, and suggested reconsidering the signal cycle, so that each direction has a full role in the cycle, and not in an equal manner, because it confuses drivers.

As for (Khalifa), he differed with them in their opinion, stressing that the problem is not in the signal system, as it has been in place for many years, and that the problem lies in the driver who is not paying attention to the color of the lane signal in which he is traveling.

(Mohammed) praised the efforts of the Abu Dhabi Police in raising the awareness of drivers about the danger of passing red lights, and avoiding the errors that they cause, foremost of which is the lack of concentration, but he called for unifying the traffic lights system as it was previously used, to reduce accidents.

Other drivers confirmed that they almost passed the red light when turning to the left, because they were focusing on the color of the green signal for those heading ahead, considering that the unification of the opening of the traffic lights would reduce this confusion and reduce traffic accidents.
