The good corona news at the end of the week: The infection process in Hesse is cooling down a bit after stagnation.

This also applies to Frankfurt as the largest Hessian city.

15 of the 26 Hessian districts and large cities recorded five new cases of less than 100,000 inhabitants or fewer new infections within a week.

Only four regions have a double-digit incidence, as the key figure is called.

And that despite the advance of the delta variant of the Covid-19-triggering corona virus, which was first discovered in India.

However, there is no longer any district in Hesse without a new case, as the Vogelsberg has reported a new infection for the first time in a good two weeks.

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) also shows the second highest incidence in Germany for Hesse.

Only Hamburg is a little less favorable, although the index is also quite low there.

And: When looking at the RKI list of the 15 large cities and districts with the highest incidences, Offenbach and the Groß-Gerau district are also noticeable in addition to Frankfurt.

17 more deaths in connection with Covid-19 are a strikingly high figure based on the reports of the past few days. In addition, according to the German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine, 46 corona patients in Hesse still have to be artificially ventilated. As the Ministry of Social Affairs announced to the FAZ, a total of 92 patients with Covid-19 are in intensive care units in Hesse. In addition, there are 45 normal wards and 81 suspected cases. When it comes to vaccination, Hessen is still lagging behind the federal government.

According to the RKI, the health authorities reported 60 new positive PCR tests overnight after 69 seven days ago and 304 a month ago.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, almost 291,000 people in Hesse have officially been infected with a variant of the corona virus.

According to RKI estimates, around 1400 cases are still considered active, i.e. not over.

7538 people in Hessen died from or with Covid-19.

Despite the new case, Vogelsberg continues to do best in Hesse with an incidence of 0.9.

After new cases, no other region has an incidence below one.

The code for the country is 7.0.

Only Frankfurt, Offenbach and the Groß-Gerau district have double-digit values.

Daycare centers are not an infection driver

The so-called Safe-Kids-Studies II and III of the state and the University Clinic Frankfurt on the spread of the coronavirus in day-care centers have meanwhile brought positive results. The spread of the alpha variant, formerly called the British mutant, has therefore not increased the risk of infection in day care centers, as the Ministry of Social Affairs announced on Thursday. Study III ran from May 11th to June 11th and was voluntary. 756 children and 226 teachers took part. 2964 have been tested. “None of the PCR tests were positive.” For study II, 5019 smears were taken for four weeks from mid-January, according to which three children had an infection that was no longer transferable. "We were able to detect individual infections especially when the incidence of the general population was high,"explains the Frankfurt virologist Sandra Ciesek.

54.2 percent of the Hessians with the first vaccination

With both vaccination rates, the centrally located federal state is still below the federal average.

After an intermediate spurt, Hessen lags a little behind the federal government when it comes to vaccination: 54.2 percent of people in Hessen have so far received a first vaccination against the corona virus.

Hessen is now 0.9 points below the federal average.

Bremen is the frontrunner with 63.1 percent of those who have been vaccinated for the first time - Rhineland-Palatinate has 56. In terms of those who have been fully vaccinated, Hesse lags far behind the federal mean.

Hessen comes in at 35.5 percent, which is 1.8 percentage points below the average, but the gap is closing somewhat.

3.41 million people in Hesse have been vaccinated at least once, and 2.33 million are already fully vaccinated.

Resident doctors and staff have so far administered more than 1.83 million vaccinations, as the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians announced.

Since the beginning of April, the general practitioners' practices in Hesse have also been vaccinated against Covid-19, a little later the specialist practices and, since June 7th, the company doctors have been added.

Meanwhile, the state is trying not to let the vaccination fatigue that is spreading in other countries arise in Hesse in the first place.

"Now it is important not to let up: Get vaccinated as soon as you receive a vaccination offer - so that we are also prepared for autumn," is the appeal of the state government.

The German Daycare Association demands further corona protection regulations so that the care of the small children can also take place in the facilities in autumn and winter. The corona pandemic will not go away even with an increase in the vaccination quotas, said chairwoman Waltraud Weegmann of the German Press Agency in Wiesbaden. "Mutations and regional outbreaks will shape everyday life again and again in the future." It is all the more important for daycare centers, day care centers and after-school care centers to develop concepts for a new normal operation now.
