The Moderates' party leader Ulf Kristersson will have three days to try to find support for a government and will then report to the Speaker on Friday.

He can then request an extended time or final report.

If Kristersson has a government base that could be tolerated by the Riksdag chamber, the Speaker is ready to act quickly.

- My ambition is for the Riksdag to be able to vote on a prime ministerial candidate next week, says Andreas Norlén at a press conference.

Want to mark the tempo

On Tuesday, the Speaker sat in a meeting with the party leaders to form an opinion about the way forward.

The formation of the government after the 2018 election took 134 days, but the President emphasizes that he will not allow this process to be as lengthy.

- It is important to mark the pace of the process, the parties must now decide which way forward they want to see for Sweden and this government formation, says Norlén.

He has four attempts to find a prime ministerial candidate who can get enough support in the Riksdag, otherwise a by-election must be announced which must take place within three months.

- I would like to say that we will have a prime ministerial vote this week until this process is over, says Norlén.

Kristersson wants to see a new government

SVT has sought the Moderates' party leader Ulf Kristersson for a comment, but his press secretary refers to a post published on Facebook and Instagram.

There, Kristersson writes that he is ready to take responsibility and that in the coming days he will focus on talking to the other parties who also want to see a change of power.

"A new government must become a real restart government, and it must be able to unite, not continue to split.

It must prioritize a few, really important issues in the coming year, and plow the ground for long-term reforms in the 2030s.

It must of course respect all parties in the Riksdag and be able to talk and negotiate with everyone ", he writes in the post.
