In the second reading, the Rada approved the main amendment to the document stating that in the Ethics Council, which should determine the eligibility of a candidate for the post of a member of the SCJ, the casting vote will belong to foreign experts.

“Faced with the inability to get off the IMF's needle, the Ukrainian judicial system is coming under the control of the West,” Kovitidi said.

She noted that actions aimed at undermining the independence, impartiality and effectiveness of the judiciary in Ukraine are "cause for concern."

“In this regard, the question arises with respect to human rights in Ukraine, including the Russian-speaking population living on its territory,” the senator added.

Earlier, the Verkhovna Rada approved in the final reading a bill on the procedure for electing members of the High Council of Justice (SCJ) in the framework of judicial reform, which is one of the conditions of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to continue lending to Ukraine.
