It was on November 26, 2020 that one of the employees spat twice in the face of a girl who was forcibly cared for at the residence.

This after the girl first spat on the man in the face and called him a "whore".

Everything was captured by a surveillance camera.

Is it a mitigating circumstance that she spat first?

- No, it does not matter here.

She has been in a position of dependence and in a very vulnerable situation when she was cared for in the youth home, says Ann-Sofie Prahl.

Risks daily fines

Shortly after the incident, Björkbacken was temporarily closed after years of reports of misconduct.

In February, the pictures were revealed in connection with SVT Nyheter Väst's review of Björkbacken.

The man was first suspended but the personnel responsibility committee later decided to dismiss him.

He has now confessed to the crime and risks a daily fine.

Recurring abuse

At the state-run Sis accommodation Björkbacken, girls between the ages of 12 and 16 are forcibly cared for.

In SVT's review, both girls and former employees testified about the staff's abuse and abuse against inmate girls, which is said to have taken place for several years at the youth home.

The abuse could continue, despite the management being repeatedly alerted to the situation for several years.
