The meeting of the OECD (the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development) in Paris opens this Wednesday, June 30 with a hot topic on the menu of the day: the global taxation of multinationals.

Negotiations are continuing to find a consensus among the 139 countries involved, while some remain reluctant and others fear that Amazon and other giants will escape the new rules.

First, there was the historic agreement at the G7 in London in early June on a global taxation of multinationals of at least 15% and on a fair distribution to tax the profits of its companies established in many countries.

In the line of sight: the digital giants who got richer during the Covid crisis while states have spent massively to deal with the pandemic.

Under the impetus of the United States, the idea of this world tax is not unanimous, including in the American Congress.

Within the European Union, it will not be easy either to convince those who have made tax competition one of the engines of their attractiveness, as is the case with Ireland or Hungary.

The other battle horse for the members of the OECD will be to rally the Chinese giant which applies reduced rates of corporate tax in certain innovative activities.

The next step in these discussions will be the meeting of G20 finance ministers in Venice on July 9 and 10, which will pave the way - or not - for a final agreement by the end of the year.
