Emmanuel Macron does not intend "to change Prime Minister" (...) "in the coming months", he said Monday in an interview with Elle magazine, suggesting that he will keep Jean Castex in Matignon until the end of the five-year term.
"I am not going to change Prime Minister", he declared the day after difficult regional elections for the majority.
"The local elections do not call for national consequences, and therefore no change of Prime Minister in the coming months, or weeks", he specified, questioned on the hypothesis of a woman in the post of Prime Minister , which he said he wanted during his campaign for the 2017 presidential election.
"And Jean Castex not being a woman ...", adds Emmanuel Macron to indicate that this wish will not be realized for the moment, even if he affirms to "assume his words".
"There will be no reshuffle, except on a case-by-case basis if necessary, but technical adjustments, for example on the perimeter of certain ministers", had already underlined Sunday evening a source close to the executive.
Almost unknown to the general public at his appointment, Jean Castex, former deputy secretary general of the Elysee under Nicolas Sarkozy, will celebrate his first birthday in Matignon in a week.
He succeeded Edouard Philippe on July 3, 2020 after municipal elections that were also complicated for the presidential party LREM.
