A British man in his 70s stands in court after burning a house that was about to be divided before divorce.

On the 25th local time, foreign media such as British local media Devon Live reported that 75-year-old John McCurry set fire to his residence in Exeter, Devon, England.

The McCurry's house, which was about to get divorced on June 20 last year, sold for £550,000 (about 860 million won), and the money was going to be shared between the two of them.

However, on the 17th, three days before the sale date, her husband John set the house to ashes by setting it on fire with a torch.

After living with his wife Hillary for more than 20 years, after the separation, they lived alone for two years.

John is said to have watched the house burn while drinking, without calling the fire department when neighbors came to help after discovering the flames.

Also, on the morning of the arson, he just drove out his wife, who had stopped by the house to collect his luggage, and had Hillary take only his dog.

John, who recently appeared in a local court, admitted that he had put the life of a neighbor in danger through the arson and the crime, but insisted that "it happened by accident while smoking."

"I didn't want or ask for a divorce, I didn't want to leave the house, and both my children and grandchildren are on my side. I have nowhere to go," he added.

Although the court referred to it as a "very sad case", based on the testimony and investigation results of his wife and neighbors, the court ruled that Mr.

John is due to be sentenced to prison in August and is said to have been granted conditional bail.
