Zhang Boli: Combining Chinese and Western sciences and interdisciplinary, medical students have a lot to do

In recent days, various provinces have successively announced the scores of the college entrance examination. After the college entrance examination, the topic of most concern to the parents of students-the application of volunteers has also followed.

With the rapid advancement of science and technology and the gradual improvement of people's living standards, the country and society have put forward new requirements for the development of medicine, so the influx of fresh blood in the medical field is particularly important.

Many parents and test-takers have been holding back from the medical profession.

In an interview with reporters from China Youth Daily and China Youth Daily, Zhang Boli, honorary president of Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, expressed to China Youth Daily and China Youth Daily reporters that outstanding young students can take medicine as their lifelong career.

He called on candidates who are interested in medicine to be able to actively apply for medical schools, to become a rising star in the medical field, and to become a vigorous and convincing successor.

Seeing a patient is like my "medicine"

In the 1960s, China's medical industry was still underdeveloped, and Western medicine and medicine were scarce in rural areas.

At that time, Zhang Boli, who was only a teenager, observed the huge role of Chinese medicine in rural areas.

"Because I live on the coast of the Bohai Sea, and there are fishermen nearby. I saw that many people are willing to see Chinese medicine, and the effect of Chinese medicine treatment is relatively good. A patient with intestinal obstruction, at that time, people were helpless and had to be transferred 40 miles. However, the road was covered with thick snow and there was no transportation, and the old Chinese doctor gave a prescription and a few medicines to clear the stool." Zhang Boli said.

The idea that Chinese medicine can cure diseases took root in Zhang Boli's heart, which laid the foundation for him to learn Chinese medicine systematically.

After the outbreak of the new crown pneumonia in 2020, Zhang Boli, as a member of the expert group of the Central Steering Group, resolutely went to Wuhan to fight the virus for more than 80 days, leading Chinese medicine professionals to contribute an important force to the fight against the epidemic.

In August of the same year, Academician Zhang Boli was awarded the national honorary title of "People's Hero".

Zhang Boli believes that traditional Chinese medicine itself, as a piece of ancient Chinese medical knowledge, is both rigorous and systematic. At the same time, it can be cross-integrated with Western medicine and have complementary advantages. If a doctor can master the two knowledge structures, it will be more handy when it comes to illness.

Today, Zhang Boli still insists on going out twice a week.

"Cure the patient's disease and reap the patient's gratitude. For me, it is a realization of my own value and a kind of enjoyment. Seeing the patient is like my'medicine'."

Break the stereotype and look forward to young people "taking over the class"

Zhang Boli pointed out that medicine itself is also gradually changing from the mode of treating diseases in the past to the mode of maintaining health now.

"China is still a developing country, and there are still some shortcomings in terms of medical and health care. China's own traditional Chinese medicine can help China embark on a path of equal emphasis on Chinese and Western medicine, integration of Chinese and Western medicine, and Chinese and Western medicine. In the fight against the epidemic, China's medical care works It was this method that was used to achieve victory."

Many parents and candidates consider the long training period and conflicts between doctors and patients when they want to apply for the medical profession, and they hesitate because of these risks.

In response to social issues such as the doctor-patient relationship, Zhang Boli replied: "As our country's legal system is gradually improved, people's awareness continues to rise, and as many of our guarantee systems gradually improve, this problem will be gradually resolved."

"The dean of the medical profession reflects the responsibility of the majority of colleges and universities to patients, to the medical cause, and the respect for life. I hope that parents and candidates can break the stereotype of the medical and health field and apply for the medical profession bravely. , To inject new strength into the development of China's medical and health industry." Zhang Boli said.

In Zhang Boli's view, pediatrics, geriatrics, and rehabilitation medicine are all areas where there is a relatively large talent gap. At the same time, the people's demand for grassroots medical staff and general practitioners is also increasing with the development of society.

In the battle for the prevention and control of the new crown pneumonia epidemic, the majority of young medical workers performed very prominently and excellently, making the predecessors in the professional field feel that there are successors.

Zhang Boli said: "I hope that more young students, especially some outstanding young students, can take medicine as their lifelong career direction, actively apply for medical colleges, and become rising stars in the medical field to take up this class."

Combination of Chinese and Western, interdisciplinary, medical students have a lot to do

When many candidates are interested in studying medicine, they may ask again: "What kind of person is suitable for studying medicine? Am I a good seed for studying medicine?"

Zhang Boli pointed out: First of all, regardless of any career or subject, love is the foundation, and interest is the best teacher; second, doctor is a profession that serves others and wants to be a good doctor. It must have dedication and a strong sense of responsibility; third, hard work and persistence in learning are essential qualities of doctors, and it is very necessary to establish the concept of lifelong learning.

"Medical students have a long academic system, a wide range of courses, and very difficult. Both during school and after graduation, they need to continue to learn and supplement new knowledge. Let students establish firm ideals, never forget their original intentions, and struggle to achieve their ideals. Struggle and make unremitting efforts." This is Zhang Boli's philosophy of educating people.

After years of exploration and research, China's medical education has summed up its own path of training medical talents.

The "5+3" model is a talent training model commonly used in the current society, where "5" refers to 5 years of undergraduate study, and "3" refers to 3 years of regular training.

At present, the main point of improvement in universities is how to improve the quality of regulatory training. At the same time, universities are actively exploring the cultivation of innovative medical senior talents and diversification of disciplines.

In the training of medical cross-discipline, studying medicine after graduating from ordinary universities for four years is a new development trend that is in line with foreign countries. Academician Zhang Boli said that this can enrich the structure of students and also enable students to have more A solid foundation of modern science.

The combination of Chinese and Western training is also a training plan that is gradually put on the agenda.

"In fact, it is a good thing for our students to learn a little knowledge of Chinese medicine. Many concepts of Chinese medicine are not lagging behind. Regardless of its long history, many concepts stand at the forefront of modern medicine." Zhang Boli said that the integration of Chinese and Western medicine is Chinese characteristics are also one of the directions for the future development of Chinese medical higher education.

"With national development and social progress, national cultural self-confidence has been greatly enhanced, the people have a more comprehensive understanding of Chinese medicine, and the practical achievements of Chinese medicine in the medical and health field have also been recognized more and more." Zhang Boli also encouraged. The majority of candidates apply for Chinese medicine majors, learn Chinese medicine, inherit national culture, and carry forward Chinese programs.
