The E4 in Robertsfors municipality is currently being widened.

The game fences on both sides of the road prevent game accidents, but it also prevents reindeer and other animals from getting between different pastures.

That is why the Swedish Transport Administration is now building two so-called fauna bridges.

The first is already being built this autumn.

The hope is that wildlife accidents on the stretch will decrease.

- We have a Sami village in the area that has its winter pasture towards the coast and it is very important that they can pass.

Previously, we had to turn off the E4 when they had to pass with their herds, says Pia Törrö, project manager at the Swedish Transport Administration.

Handrail against the traffic noise

The fauna bridge costs an estimated SEK 25 million and will be ready in 2022. The bridge will have a wooden railing to protect the animals from visual impressions and noise from traffic.

See sketches on the bridge and hear how the animals are supposed to start using it in the video above.
