Eleven departments are now placed on orange vigilance by Météo-France because of a risk of thunderstorms Monday in the east and the center of the country, after severe bad weather caused damage in the Puy-de-Dôme.

Seven border departments of Switzerland and Germany - Ain, Doubs, Jura, Bas-Rhin, Haut-Rhin, Haute-Savoie and Territoire-de-Belfort - were placed on Monday morning in alert, in addition to the four departments already in orange vigilance (Allier, Loire, Puy-de-Dôme and Rhône) because of a "strong risk" of "violent phenomenon", specifies a bulletin from Météo-France.

New stormy wave expected in the early afternoon

In the morning, the situation still remained "fairly calm in the zone in orange vigilance" and "some weak and sporadic thunderstorms occurred there", specified the organization of forecasts.

The new stormy wave is expected at the start of the afternoon in the northeast of the Massif Central.

Thunderstorms will quickly spread northward.

Near the Swiss and German borders until the middle of the night, there is a risk of severe thunderstorms with falling hail, strong gusts of wind (close to 100 km / h) and high intensities of precipitation (of order of 30 mm / h).

Thunderstorm activity will decrease markedly overnight Monday through Tuesday.

Sunday evening, violent thunderstorms caused a mudslide in the town of Sauvagnat-Sainte-Marthe (Puy-de-Dôme) as well as numerous interventions by firefighters in the department.

The mudslide, caused by heavy rains, invaded the streets of this town of 500 inhabitants, requiring a partial closure of the A75 motorway, according to the prefecture.
