A disagreement between two neighbors in Sheffield (United Kingdom) turned sour.

One of the protagonists to cut a tree in half vertically, tells the BBC.

The dispute focused on the droppings of pigeons having built their nest in this tree located between the alleys of two residences and which soiled the soil of one of the properties.

The two families had been neighbors for 28 years.

"They got along well, from what I could see," said Ann Wiles, who lives on the same street.

We have a lot of pigeons, hundreds.

We live in the countryside.

Last March, neighbors of 56-year-old Bharat Mistry began to complain about the fouling caused by pigeon droppings.

They demanded that the tree be cut down.

The two families had "several discussions" in an attempt to find an "amicable" solution, Bharat Mistry said.

Partial pruning or the installation of a net have been mentioned in particular.

The Briton explained that he had consulted with gardeners and specialists, but his neighbor cut the rug out from under him by bringing in his own arborist.

The professional cut half of the tree.

A local attraction

The appearance of the tree is so unusual that it is now a local tourist attraction that many visitors make a detour to.

“At first we were angry,” said Bharat Mistry.

And we obviously started to calm down after a few days.

"

The 50-year-old said the operation could be fatal to the tree, which would then have to be felled.

Despite everything, he hopes to be able to save it by cutting it back.

The neighbor at the origin of the radical cut, he did not wish to speak on the subject.
