UK Matt Hancock resigns after breaking social distancing by kissing his lover in his office
Former British Health Secretary
Matt Hancock
and his lover Gina Coladangelo - immortalized on the rugged cover of
The Sun
that has opened a crisis in the Johnson government - plan to live together and start a new life, according to several British media.
Hancock (42) apparently communicated his decision Thursday night to his wife, Martha, the mother of his three children.
Gina Coladangelo (43) was photographed on Saturday
filling her own car with suitcases
and helped by her husband, millionaire Oliver Tress (founder of the fashion firm Oliver Bonas), with whom she also has three children.
The two knew each other when they were students at Oxford University and worked together on the Oxygen FM station.
The first rumors about an alleged romance between the two circulated since 2019 and soared when Gina Coladangelo - who worked as a public relations officer at her husband's company - was hired as a part-time consultant for the Department of Health.
However, other acquaintances of Matt Hancock maintain that the relationship between the two really took shape in May of this year and that it is a full-blown love story.
The British Government has meanwhile decided to open an
internal investigation
to determine how the recording of the kiss and make-up between Hancock and his lover in his own office could have been
leaked to the press
.
According to
The Mail on Sunday
, the perpetrator of the leak could have been an employee of the Department of Health opposed to the lockdowns and outraged by Hancock's indiscretions.
The images were apparently recorded by a security camera that had been installed in the large office of the Secretary of Health since 2017 and that are manufactured by the Chinese company Hikvision, which has triggered speculation that they may be used for
espionage.
Initially it was thought that the scenes had been filmed with a secret camera strategically placed and pointed towards the door of the office.
Apparently, the images were offered to
The Sun
(unknown if other outlets as well) on June 17, a day after former Boris Johnson strategist Dominic Cummings revealed that the "premier" had defined Hancock in a SMS as "a fucking desperate man".
