, a 52-year-old mountaineer had a fatal fall of nearly 30 meters in the Ecrins massif this Sunday morning.

The facts occurred while the 50-year-old rappelled with a companion on the crossing of Mount Pelvoux.

But the boulder the victim was on came loose, causing him to fall.

His companion is unharmed.

Help was dispatched to the site, to no avail.

A judicial investigation was opened by the prosecutor's office in Gap, in the Hautes-Alpes.
