UN experts on Monday expressed their "greatest concern" at the numerous accusations of sexual violence committed against children in Catholic institutions and called on the Pope to act.
These experts - who are mandated by the UN but do not speak on its behalf - condemned the "measures adopted by the Catholic Church to protect alleged perpetrators, cover up crimes and hinder accountability, which has led to impunity for the crimes committed ”, in a letter sent to the head of the Catholic Church.
