• At the end of the first round of departmental, the National Rally came first in three of the five departments of Hauts-de-France.

  • However, the voting method does not place the RN as a favorite.

  • In the North, for example, Marine le Pen's party is in a favorable ballot in only 4 out of 41 cantons.

Same day, same voters, but different results. Sunday, on the evening of the first round of the regional election, Xavier Bertrand came out on top with a rather unexpected score of 41.39% of the votes cast, far from his challenger of the RN (24.37%). Except that during the departmental ballot, which was taking place at the same time, it was indeed the RN who came first in three of the five departments of Hauts-de-France: Aisne, Pas-de-Calais and the North. However, there is no chance that any of these departments will fall into the hands of Marine le Pen's party.

However, we cannot really compare these two elections.

The first reason is the greater dissolution of trends.

While seven lists were in the running in Hauts-de-France for the regional election, there were between 10 (Aisne) and 17 (North) pairs for departmental depending on the cantons.

In Pas-de-Calais alone, there were eight different pairs for the left and environmentalist tendency, and three for the right.

The "outgoing bonus" also exists for departmental

Like the regional ones, a “leaving bonus” effect was also observed.

In the Aisne, for example, the RN comes first with 10 points ahead (31.25%) over the various right-hand pair (21.27%).

A setback for the outgoing president, Nicolas Fricoteaux (various center), who was nevertheless reelected in his canton.

It is the same scenario which took place in Pas-de-Calais where the RN also came out on top but where the outgoing president, Jean-Claude Leroy (PS) was re-elected in the first round.

In the North, the outgoing president, Jean-René Lecerf (DVD), did not represent himself in his canton of Lille 2 where the union duo of the right certainly comes out on top, but in tie with the duo of union of left.

However, arriving at the head of the departmental is far from being synonymous with a probable victory in the second round.

For the regional, it is almost folded and, with its 41.39% in the first round and the postponement of LREM votes, Xavier Bertrand should be reelected next Sunday.

For departmental departments, citizens elect two departmental councilors per canton, who will in turn elect their president.

Results in Hauts-de-France

In the North, for example, the RN comes first with 23.11% of the votes cast, ahead of the union of the right (22.36%) and the union of the left and environmentalists (11.21%).

Except that the party of Marine le Pen is in favorable waivers in only 4 of the 41 northern cantons.

The right (Union of the right and Various right) is favorite in 20 cantons and the left (PCF, Union of the left and ecologists) in 11. In this regard, the department should remain on the right with strong opposition from the left and environmentalists.
