The service union Verdi has once again called on employees of the large mail order company Amazon to go on strike, this time on the so-called Prime Days on Monday and Tuesday.

The strike has also started in the Fra1 and Fra3 dispatch centers in Bad Hersfeld.

In view of the good business of the group, the employee representatives are demanding higher fees from Amazon than the company has been offering so far, and are demanding that it take over the retail tariff in Hesse.

In Bad Hersfeld, the company has around 3,500 employees. On the “Prime Days”, Amazon says it offers all kinds of products at low prices on the Internet. According to Verdi, trade unionists will not work there on Wednesday either. Verdi demands from Amazon to recognize the collective agreements of the retail and mail order business in Hessen. And already in the ninth year. In addition, the union is dissatisfied with the group's collective bargaining offer.

“Amazon recently announced wage increases of 2.5 percent.

That is just a compensation for the current price increase.

That is not an appreciation and recognition of the special burdens in the Corona period, "Verdi quotes his secretary Mechthild Middeke, who is responsible for Bad Hersfeld.

Amazon is one of the winners of the corona crisis in retail.

“The Amazon workers earned more,” she concludes.

Around 300 of the 3,500 employees take part in the strike, according to the dpa.

    4.5 percent demanded per month

The union wants to achieve a wage increase of 4.5 percent in the collective bargaining with the commercial employers in addition to 45 euros more per month, with a minimum wage of 12.50 euros per hour as well as the general applicability of the collective agreements.

Amazon refers to a number of additional benefits such as employee shares, bonuses and free insurance.

A spokesman for the German subsidiary confirmed the planned 2.5 percent for Bad Hersfeld in mid-June.

But he pointed out: "The wages rise differently from region to region, which are sometimes more than 6 percent." The important thing is that there should be a wage increase, subject to the approval of the works council, for all employees in the shipping department, even if they are already above the aforementioned Brand.

The company automatically increases the fees every twelve and 24 months.

As a result, employees who worked for Amazon for 24 months would get a budget of at least 13.52 euros.

So far, the minimum wage in Bad Hersfeld is 11.73 euros.

According to the union, Amazon still pays below the relevant Hessian tariff. The employee representatives see the company's accession to the main association of German retailers as an encouraging signal. Middeke sees this as an indication that Amazon no longer sees itself as a pure logistician, as she told the FAZ in mid-June.
