The Swedish Transport Administration chose not to build a completed bypass Masugnsbyn when the mining company Northland Resources went bankrupt in 2014. But now, after seven years, it will be completed.

- These are the resources, of course.

When there were no ore transports, construction was not completed, says Gun-Marie Mårtensson, project manager at the Swedish Transport Administration.

Budgeted road bill: 2.3 billion

The accident-hit curve and the dangerously narrow road through Masugnsbyn will be removed with a bypass.

The new section will cost around SEK 100 million.

In total, the entire road work, from the mine in Kaunisvaara to the transhipment station in Svappavaara, will cost SEK 2.3 billion and will be completed by 2025.

Built too full - wants road users to keep their speed down

This year, a new bridge will also be built over the Tärendö River and the Masugnsbyn-Junosuando and Anttis-Lovikka sections will be strengthened and widened.

This means traffic disruptions this summer and the Swedish Transport Administration is appealing for understanding from road users.

- Slow down and take extra time.

Keep in mind that it is people who work along the way, says Gun-Marie Mårtensson.
