• Thierry Mariani (RN) collects 35.5% of the votes during this first round of regional Paca.

He is followed by Renaud Muselier (LR) with 33%.

  • The candidate of the social and ecological rally list Jean-Laurent Félizia is credited with 15% of the vote.

However, the first secretary of the PS asks him to withdraw his list in the second round.

  • With just over 5% of the vote, will Jean-Marc Governatori, candidate for the ecology of the center, be the kingmaker?

The only certainty of these regional elections is that the Paca region will remain on the right.

All of France had its eyes on this region, where the National Rally seemed to be in a position to bring its first region to the far right.

The results, however, thwarted the prognosis of a poll in which abstention touched unprecedented heights.

Here are three highlights of the first round of these regional elections in Paca, and a candidate who could change the situation.

Mariani ultimately less well than Marion-Maréchal

The cast seemed perfect for the National Rally.

By recruiting Thierry Mariani, former minister of Nicolas Sarkozy, the party of Marine Le Pen held its totem of normalization.

A normalization perhaps such that the RN, whose electorate is usually faithful, now also suffers the effects of abstention.

With 35.5% of the votes cast, Mariani did less well than Marion Maréchal-Le Pen in 2015. A score that places Thierry Mariani in an unfavorable waiver, while he was given the winner in the second round in the pre-election polls.

"It is not inevitable," he repeated twice, considering himself "the first victim" of abstention.

Renaud Muselier has every reason to believe it, but

Unlike his former friend of the UMP and opponent in this election, Renaud Muselier had a smile on Sunday evening, rejoicing to have "foiled all the polls".

Following the list of Thierry Mariani by one point, the outgoing president of the region and his 33%, can foresee his re-election, believing that he can "win this election".

Renaud Muselier who hoped in particular from Jean-Laurent Félizia, the candidate of the social and ecological gathering, a "taking of responsibility in the face of the extreme right" and a "overcoming the divisions", will however have to deal with the maintenance of the latter in second round.

Jean-Laurent Félizia and the kiss of death?

At 10:30 p.m., Jean-Laurent Félizia and his running mates announced that they would stay in the second round of regional elections, despite the “solemn call for removal from the list” by the first secretary of the PS, Olivier Faure.

His list of social and ecological rally won a little more than 15% of the vote and wants to be present in the regional assembly. "We did not propose to the voters of the left and the ecology to vote for their ideas, for Then offer them to disappear and be erased for the next six years, ”he said in the evening.

A decision that risks weighing heavily in the final result of this election.

The surprise Jean-Marc Governatori, kingmaker?

With just over 5% of the vote, Jean-Marc Governatori, candidate for the ecology of the center, is not in a position to stay in the second round but can lead negotiations for a possible merger of the list.

His choice should naturally turn to Renaud Muselier, and give him a “green” guarantee.

If the votes add up correctly, and without predicting the behavior of voters who went to one of the other five lists under 5%, Renaud Muselier would mathematically advance Thierry Mariani by just over two points.
