• Carole Delga (PS) came out on top of the regional in Occitanie on Sunday.

  • While the polls saw him first, Jean-Paul Garraud (RN) is lagging behind.

  • Aurélien Pradié (LR) is third, while Vincent Terrail-Novès (various right), the presidential majority candidate, remains below 10%.

Carole Delga (PS) came far ahead of Jean-Paul Garraud (RN) on Sunday in the first round of regional elections in Occitania. The polls were seriously wrong in the region.

Or perhaps they had not predicted such an abstention for this ballot: nearly 62%, against 47.76% in 2015.

20 Minutes

takes stock of the results in Occitanie, and looks forward to the second round.

Carole Delga (largely) favorite

The second round of regional no longer seems to be a mere formality, for the outgoing candidate, in Occitanie. Deceiving all the polls that predicted a second place for her, Carole Delga (PS) came out on top of the votes on Sunday with 39.62% of the vote. "Nothing is won, we must amplify this score, it is necessary that, next Sunday, it is the Republic who wins, strongly", insisted the elected.

It remains to be seen, from now on, whether the former minister will seek to seal alliances.

And how.

In particular with Antoine Maurice (EELV), who, with 8.20% of the votes, cannot be maintained, the bar of 10% not being reached, but who is able to merge.

A marriage that seems natural: Carole Delga has governed, since 2015, with environmentalists.

Antoine Maurice is in favor: "The time has come to meet again and I sent a message to Carole Delga in this direction," he said on Sunday evening.

We hope that a fair and balanced agreement will be found as soon as possible.

It remains to be seen, also, if the outgoing candidate will benefit from the postponement of the votes of the voters who chose Myriam Martin (LFI), which reached only 4.76%, Sunday.

Too little to merge.

The RN lagging behind

While it was expected between 30 and 33%, according to polls that have followed one another in recent weeks, Jean-Paul Garraud (RN) won only 23.48% of the vote on Sunday evening.

Very far behind Carole Delga.

A setback, for the RN, in Occitania.

By way of comparison, the list of Louis Aliot (RN), in 2015, reached in the first round 31.87% of the votes in the newly formed region.

In the second round, unless there was a burst of abstentionist voters from the RN, Jean-Paul Garraud, without any real reserve of votes, had little chance of winning the Occitanie region.

“There remains a second round to mobilize and unite, assured the candidate, Sunday evening.

Abstention is regrettable because it has a direct impact on the results.

The RN electorate mobilized less.

"

LR is qualified, LREM misses the mark

It was one of the unknowns of the ballot: will the list supported by the presidential majority and that of the Republicans be able to pass the 10% mark, and thus qualify for the second round?

For Aurélien Pradié (LR), the answer is yes: the candidate gathered 12.35% on Sunday.

"A real mark of confidence", assured the deputy of Lot, third of the votes, who wants to be "a credible alternation for the second round".

All regional results

For Vincent Terrail-Novès, the LREM candidate, on the other hand, the evening is bitter: while the polls saw it between 11 and 13%, the mayor of Balma (Haute-Garonne) caps at 8.60%, and n ' is not able to keep up.

For the candidate, the strong abstention on Sunday has "greatly benefited the outgoing president".

But it can, on the other hand, merge.

It remains to be seen with whom.

And under what conditions.
