Esmeralda's mother was sentenced last summer to one year and nine months in prison for aggravated manslaughter and drug offenses.
The verdict was appealed by both parties to the Court of Appeal and the hearing was held in the spring in Linköping District Court.
The prosecution continued to demand that the mother be convicted of murder and a significantly harsher punishment.
The defense side, for its part, said that the mother should be acquitted completely, because the mother had no intention of harming the girl.
