In September last year, the Ombudsman opened a so-called initiative case against the Public Prosecutor's Office to investigate what the Ombudsman stated were "certain legal security issues due to the prosecutor's report" at the press conference on June 10, 2020 when a named person was identified as a probable killer.

The person who is also called Skandiamannen has been dead for several years and was stated as a suspect in the murder.

- The prosecutor's statements raise questions about whether the suspect's interests were taken into account at the press conference and whether circumstances that spoke in the suspect's favor were sufficiently highlighted.

I have made clear boundaries for my investigation and it is not a question of a screening of the entire preliminary investigation, said the ombudsman Per Lennerbrant when he began the investigation in September last year.

The Ombudsman then stated that the investigation would not aim at assessing that the named person is suspected of the crime and that the preliminary investigation was discontinued or how the preliminary investigation was conducted over the years.
