Due to the closure of the Salzbachtal bridge on Autobahn 66 near Wiesbaden, there are delays on Monday morning.

Coming from the Rheingau, a backwater is already forming in the direction of Frankfurt, said a spokesman for the Wiesbaden police on Monday morning.

At around 7.30 a.m. it jammed between the Schiersteiner Kreuz and Wiesbaden-Biebrich over a length of around two kilometers.

The traffic has already stalled on some runs in Wiesbaden.

"We are closely monitoring the traffic development this morning and have also used a helicopter to look from above," reported the police spokesman.

But he also assumes that many commuters in the Rhine-Main area have prepared for the blockage.

Surprisingly blocked

Because of discovered large cracks, a subsidence and fallen concrete parts, the bridge was surprisingly closed on Friday evening.

The recommended extensive detour runs over the Mainzer Autobahnring on the other side of the Rhine.

The B263 (Mainzer Straße) running under the bridge is also closed.

In addition, rail traffic from Wiesbaden main station is restricted because the tracks run under the Salzbachtal Bridge.

Replacement buses run from Mainz-Kastel and Wiesbaden-Biebrich.
