Last year, it was investigated that there were more than 80 sexual offenses against women in the military. Most of the victims were sergeants or sergeants less than 5 years in office, and many of the perpetrators were direct superiors.

past year, there were 771 cases of sexual violence such as forced molestation and sexual assault by the military police.



There were 333 cases of same-sex crimes, 351 crimes against civilians, and 87 cases of sexual violence against women in the military.



That's about 7 cases per month.



We examined these 87 cases in detail.



As for the victim's identity, 58.6% were sergeants and sergeants.



It was followed by civil servants (13.8%), captains (12.6%), and lieutenants and lieutenants (9.2%).



The tenure of most of the sergeants and military personnel, where the damage was concentrated, was less than five years.



There were no victims in the ranks of sergeant and sergeant.



As for the male perpetrators, senior non-commissioned officers accounted for the most at 50.6%, followed by officers above the military rank (23%).



It shows that power-based sex crimes based on superior positions such as direct superiors still exist.

Last March 2 Air Force Sergeant A, who took his own life after suffering secondary damage after the incident of sexual harassment in Japan, was also in his fifth year of commission.



The perpetrator, Sgt. Jang Mo, was a senior for 2 years working in the same office as Sergeant A.



The Ministry of National Defense conducts annual sexual violence prevention education for all military personnel.



In 2018, the Gender Equality Committee was formed to re-establish the 'one strike-out' principle for sexual assault crimes, but the scene still hasn't changed.
