20 June 2021At the end of a splendid battle with Lewis Hamilton, which started badly with a long at the first corner (and immediately lost leadership), Max Verstappen re-emerges after the insult in Baku and triumphs in the French Grand Prix, the seventh round of the World Championship. With this victory, the third of the season, obtained with an overtaking on the penultimate lap, the Dutchman of Red Bull strengthens his leadership in the world championship standings on the British driver of Mercedes (131 points against 119), second at the finish line and second also in the general classification. Third step of the podium for the Mexican Perez with the other Red Bull, then Bottas, Norris, Ricciardo, Gasly, Alonso, Vettel and Stroll (he started last).

Late night for a Ferrari in great difficulty on this track (it had already been seen at the beginning of the weekend), even out of the top ten with both drivers: Carlos Sainz finished eleventh, Charles Leclerc even sixteenth. After the good tests on two city circuits, a slow car, without rhythm and disaster that requires reflections.

Race of Le Castellet, as mentioned, entirely focused on the beautiful Verstappen-Hamilton duel, with the others acting as 'disinterested' spectators. The two give life to a long battle from the first meters, when the Dutch Red Bull goes long and immediately gives the position to his rival. Mercedes, however, pays dearly for a strategy that is far from perfect and on lap 52 (of 53) the decisive overtaking of the Dutchman takes place and then flies to success. Next Sunday we get back on track immediately: the Styrian GP will be held on the Spielberg track in Austria.
