Saudi Arabia: Updating health protocols in mosques and mosques in all regions of the Kingdom

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Call and Guidance in Saudi Arabia clarified that it issued a circular updating all health protocols in mosques and mosques in all regions of the Kingdom, based on what was received by the Public Health Authority regarding preventive protocols for mosques, in light of the ongoing Corona pandemic.

The circular stipulated that all preventive measures be taken, including wearing a mask, bringing a special carpet, not crowding when entering and leaving the mosque, maintaining a distance (one and a half meters) between worshipers, canceling the requirement to leave an empty row between each two rows, and canceling the reduction of the waiting period between the call to prayer and Iqamah. And adherence to the previously approved time as follows: (20) minutes for all the obligatory prayers, (25) minutes for Fajr prayer, and (10) minutes for Maghrib prayer.

It also stipulated maintaining the opening of mosques for Friday prayers one hour before the Friday call to prayer and closing them 30 minutes after the prayer, and canceling the limitation of the duration of the Friday sermon and its connections to 15 minutes, taking into account not to lengthen the sermon according to the Sunnah, in addition to returning the Qur’an to mosques, with Urging worshipers to bring their Quran with them, allowing lectures and lessons to be given in mosques, while adhering to social distancing measures, and that the period be consistent with the period of opening the mosque, and cancel the previous directive to remove water coolers and refrigerators from mosques.
