In Hauts-de-France, 7 candidates, including the outgoing president, Xavier Bertrand, are vying for the regional election.
The latest polls published gave Xavier Bertrand in the lead followed closely by the RN candidate, Sébastien Chenu, and in third position, the union list of the left.
This first round of voting was marked by a phenomenal abstention rate.

6:08 p.m.: An abstention never seen when most of the offices are closed
If in Lille, the polling stations do not close until 7 p.m., elsewhere, they have been closed since 6 p.m.
And this is not good news for the turnout, the lowest ever recorded in an election in France.
In the North, at 5 p.m., it was 25.23% (45.03% in 2015).
For the Hauts-de-France, the participation rate was 27.17% (49.10% in 2015).
