Monday's election, which was postponed due to the pandemic, is a test for current Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, who has been in power since 2018.
In 2019, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
The motivation was then: "for its work to achieve peace and international cooperation, and especially for its decisive initiative to resolve the border conflict with neighboring Eritrea".
He is now leading a country in crisis since a conflict broke out in the state of Tigray in November 2020.
