Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn advises against traveling to the European Championship finals in London.

"London is virus variant area," said the CDU politician on Sunday evening in the ARD program "Report from Berlin".

"Every returnee has to be in quarantine for two weeks." This drastic measure shows that anyone who does not necessarily have to travel to the United Kingdom should not go there.

"Football is nice, but you don't necessarily have to be in London," said Spahn.

The final of the European Football Championship is to be held in the British capital on July 11, although the delta variant of the corona virus is spreading rapidly there.

The head of the Chancellery, Helge Braun, has already advised German football fans not to travel to the island to attend the crucial European Championship games.

According to Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn, the current pandemic phase with a view to the Delta variant is about finding the right balance.

"We can loosen up now," said the CDU politician.

However, the mood should not lead to high spirits.

"So: Confidence for the summer, but also caution, especially towards autumn and winter."

With a view to children and adolescents, Spahn said: “Our goal should be as much normality as possible for schools after the holidays, but also as much security as possible.” One possibility is vaccinations for children from the age of twelve. "We can offer at least the first vaccination to anyone over the age of 12 who wants to be vaccinated by the end of August." At least regular testing is still required for all those who have not been vaccinated.
