Ibrahim Leahy wins Iranian presidential election

  Xinhua News Agency, Tehran, June 19 (Reporter Wang Shoubao Gao Wencheng) Iranian Interior Minister Fazli announced on the 19th that the director of justice Ibrahim Lehi won the 13th Iranian presidential election.

  Fazli said at a press conference held that day that Leahy won the presidential election with nearly 17.93 million votes, with a vote rate of nearly 62%.

  Iran’s current President Rouhani and three other presidential candidates congratulated Leahy on the same day.

  Leahy was born in Mashhad, the holy Shiite city of Iran in 1960. He was appointed as the Attorney General of Iran in 2014 and served as Director of Justice of Iran in 2019.

During the televised debate before the election, he emphasized that combating corruption will be an important task for post-election governance.

Regarding the negotiations on the Iranian nuclear agreement, Leahy said that if it is beneficial to the interests of the Iranian people, he will continue to support the negotiations.

  Iran’s 13th presidential election was held on the 18th, with 4 candidates running for the president.

Iran has a total population of more than 80 million, and there were more than 59 million eligible voters in this general election.

According to the final data released by the Iranian Ministry of Interior, more than 28.9 million voters participated in the voting.

  According to Iran’s election law, presidential elections are held every 4 years. The president is elected by voters directly and can be re-elected.

In the first round of voting in the election, the candidate who wins more than half of the votes will directly win.
