Sung Kim, the special representative for North Korea, who oversees the US nuclear negotiations, visited South Korea for the first time since taking office.



CEO Sung Kim entered through Incheon International Airport on the morning of the 19th and said, "I look forward to a productive meeting with Senior Representative Noh (Gyu-deok) of the Korean government and his colleagues, and Japan's Senior Representative Funakoshi and his colleagues." He expressed his feelings.



Chairman Kim did not answer questions about how to bring North Korea to the table of dialogue.



On the weekends, CEO Kim digests an undisclosed schedule, and on the morning of the next morning at the Lotte Hotel in Sogong-dong, Seoul, he will consult with Noh Gyu-deok, head of the Korean Peninsula Peace Negotiation Headquarters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the chief representative of the ROK-U.S. North Korea nuclear program.



At this meeting, the two countries are expected to share analyzes of the results of the North Korean plenary meeting and coordinate measures for North Korea's return to negotiations.



On the 21st, President Sung Kim and Director Roh will hold talks on the North Korean nuclear issue with Japan's chief DPRK representative, Takehiro Funakoshi, director of the Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau of the Foreign Ministry, who is expected to visit Korea around the weekend.



There are also plans to hold talks on the North Korean nuclear issue between Japan and South Korea.



This is the first time for President Sung Kim to visit Korea as a special representative for North Korea under the Biden administration.



This visit to Korea was also accompanied by Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for East Asia and Pacific Jeong Park, the Special Deputy Representative for North Korea, and a member of the National Security Council (NSC) of the White House.



Kim is scheduled to leave South Korea on the 23rd after meeting with Unification Minister Lee In-young on the 22nd and meeting with academics and civil society figures to discuss the results of the North Korea policy review.



It is known that there are no plans to contact North Korea during the visit.
