Initially, the military junta in power since the coup of August 18, 2020 had set the duration of the transition at 18 months.

Dates have even been announced for the next presidential elections, in February 2022, and legislative, in March of the same year.

These elections must mark the return of power to elected civilians.

After his second putsch in May, Colonel Assimi Goïta proclaimed himself president and appointed

a prime minister, Choguel Maïga

.

He made a commitment to Malians and Mali's international partners to respect the deadlines.

Time seems too short to do all of this

 "

Parena spokesperson Sidi el Moctar Kounta believes that there is currently a cacophony within the executive:

We would have liked it not to be the case, but the fact is that there is more and more cacophony at the top of the

state. The Prime Minister, ignoring the presidential commitment, announces the opening of such a hazardous project, such as that of the National Assises of the refoundation. The Prime Minister maintains an artistic vagueness on the respect of the agreed duration of the transition.

 "

For him, the National Assembly of the refoundation will inevitably lead to an extension of the transitional period: "

The projects that the Prime Minister wants to open aim to prepare the conditions for an extension of the transitional period, because the remaining time would not be enough. to undertake the non-consensual organization of the foundations of the refoundation. Then, to also conduct all the reforms and organize the presidential and legislative elections. Does the weather allow it? Do the very means of the State allow it? It was not decided anywhere, it was not agreed with anyone. And combine with all the other forms, plus elections… Time seems too short to do all of this.
