Burma: UN calls "to prevent the influx of arms" into the country

The UN General Assembly on Friday, June 18 adopted a non-binding resolution condemning the coup d'état in Burma and calling on "
all member states to prevent the flow of arms
" to this country.
A rare position that does not go so far as to call for a global embargo for this country.

Once again, the General Assembly of the United Nations will have provided for the shortcomings, very frequent in recent months, of the Security Council.
119 countries condemned the coup in Burma, and called for limiting the arms supplied to the country.
The resolution also supported
ASEAN's
plan
.
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations recommends the appointment of an envoy and an end to violence against peaceful protesters.
Finally, the UN text calls for unhindered humanitarian access, and a visit by the UN envoy.

China blocks joint statement in Security Council
It is the broadest condemnation of the situation since the putsch of February 1 and the repression which left at least 860 dead among civilians.
And as the Ambassador of Burma has dissociated himself from the junta, but still sits in New York, he was able to get his country to vote in favor of this text.
However, like all resolutions of the General Assembly, this one is in no way binding.
Earlier, Friday morning, the Security Council had been briefed, but still had not reached an agreement on a joint declaration.
China, an ally of Burma, blocks all possibilities.
